Project Overview

National Freeway No. 2 was originally a beltway of National Freeway No. 1 before being widened and classified as "National Freeway No. 2" in the Freeway System and highway network of Taiwan.

The numbering system for Taiwan's highways generally follows a rule in which odd numbers represent north-south direction roads and even numbers represent east-west direction roads.

The 20.4 kilometer long National Freeway No. 2 is thus an important high speed east-west direction link extending from the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at its western end to a junction with Taiwan's other north-south direction freeway serving the western corridor at its eastern end (National Freeway No. 3).

Besides the widening and extension works, this project also performs alterations and changes for interchanges within the area in order to improve their transport function.  There are a total of 5 interchanges involved in this project, which are namely

  • the Dayuan Interchange, a partial cloverleaf,

  • the Airport System Interchange (all-directional) which interchanges with National Freeway No. 1,

  • the South Taoyuan Interchange, a partial cloverleaf,

  • the Danan Interchange, a partial cloverleaf, and
