Project Overview

Kinmen Off-shore Island is located in the Taiwan Strait and also happens to be Taiwan's sixth National Park featuring a wide variety of tourism activities.

In order to attain the standard requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), improvements were made to the commercial airport including the runway and taxiway.

The main work items of the project included

  • reducing the length of the runway 480 meters in order to build a new U-turn Apron.

  • land leveling, drainage and improvement works for a parallel taxiway.

  • an additional parking apron and surrounding wall, and

  • relocation of military facilities at the north side of the runway area.

Efforts were made to balance the high volume of earth work (excavation and backfill) within the site area and also to minimize the impact on the airport operations by adopting suitable zoning areas and night time construction.
