CECI Meets High-Ranking Delegates from the Republic of Somaliland

A high-level delegation from the Republic of Somaliland arrived to Taiwan on Feb. 8 for a five-day visit to promote bilateral cooperation and strengthen mutual contacts and exchanges. As part of this important trip, on Feb. 10 members of the delegation including Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Essa Kayd Mohamoud, Minister of Finance Development Dr. Saad Ali Shire, Minister of Planning and National Development Mr. Omar Ali Abdilahi, and Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Development Mr. Saeed Sulub Mohamed, met with representatives of CECI Engineering Consultants, Inc., Taiwan to discuss opportunities in the field of engineering and infrastructure development. CECI’s side was headed by Chairman Dr. Shih Yi-Fang and included Assistant Vice President Su Mei-Hsin, Senior Engineer Chiang Yi-Ting and Senior Administrator Timur Bitokov. This meeting was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Republic of Somaliland Representative Office in Taiwan whose representatives joined the discussion.

The exchange was held in a lively and engaging atmosphere. Following CECI Chairman’s welcome remarks, the Somaliland delegation was given a brief overview of the company and its project expertise in various fields of engineering and infrastructure development. Particularly stressed was CECI’s continuous and fruitful professional experience in southern Africa, which has greatly benefited the local communities and has done much to spread out internationally Taiwan’s message of peace and sustainable development. The two sides then engaged in a productive dialogue on bilateral cooperation and projects, including the ongoing hospital rehabilitation project in Somaliland’s capital, Hargeisa.

In 2021, CECI was privileged to visit the Republic of Somaliland with organizational support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a site visit and meetings with various local agencies. That trip, albeit brief, provided the CECI team with first-hand experience of the local conditions and requirements so essential for subsequent engineering work. The meeting thus concluded with CECI’s Chairman Dr. Shih taking this opportunity to thank Somaliland for the support during that trip, extending an invitation to the Somaliland side to visit CECI in the future and expressing confidence that this is only the beginning of what will be a long-term and mutually beneficial friendship.
