Project Overview

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TTIA) has been the gateway to Taiwan since it opened for commercial operations in 1979. Currently, the 10th busiest airport in the world in terms of international passenger traffic with approximately 50 million passengers passing through Terminals 1 and 2 each year, the number of passengers has been forecasted to reach 86.6 million passengers per year in the year 2042.

While recognizing the need for an additional terminal at TTIA, the government has at the same time taken the initiative to integrate the future Terminal 3 Area with the development of the Taoyuan Aerotropolis; a newly planned international aviation city seen as a prime driver of Taiwan’s future economic development.

CECI has teamed up with the famed international architect practice RSHP from the United Kingdom as well as Arup Engineering from the United Kingdom and local architects FCA from Taiwan in a Joint Venture to carry out the design and construction supervision services for the project scope which entails numerous types of building infrastructures and facilities, including

  • A new mega terminal building (Terminal 3) which will be a national landmark and iconic structure projecting the image and identity of Taiwan. The 640,000 square meters terminal building will be able to accommodate 45 million passengers per year,

  • Multi-functional building area between Terminal 3 and Terminal 2,

  • Airside facilities including apron and taxiway works,

  • Landside transport facilities including the terminal’s approach road system,

  • Special systems, including

  1. Baggage Handling Systems (BHS),

  2. Information and Communication Technology Systems (ICT),

  3. Passenger Boarding Bridge Systems (PBB),

  4. Airfield Ground Lighting Systems (AGL), and

  5. Passenger Mover Systems (PMS).
